Pastors Jamie and Cristi brought over 20 years of student ministry experience with them when they moved to the beach from Aiken, SC in 2013. With a passion for outreach, the Word, and developing tomorrow’s leaders, Jamie and Cristi oversee the teams that lead Journey’s young people from nursery-age through college. Their talents also lend themselves to building Journey through mentoring, social media, video, fundraising, drama, and working with local schools.
Pastor Jamie is often a guest speaker for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he serves to unite and mentor other youth leaders in the area. He sits on several local boards and committees, including Ground Zero. He is also the “voice” of several teams at St. James Highs School. “PJ’s” passion for sports and love of pop culture is the perfect segue into and metaphor for his walk with Christ and his ability to reach students where they are.
Cristi, along with managing a dental office, is a gifted teacher and preacher as well. One memorable message she delivered at Journey was entitled, “I Love My Church,” which served as a retrospective of Journey’s first 7 years and also a transparent glance into the church’s heart and activities.
The Hammons have three kids: Madison, Merideth, and Morgan. The active family enjoys sports (mostly baseball!), movies, the beach, and most of all… adventure!
Pastor Michael McGirt and his wife Tonya oversee care of our congregation and outreach ministries of Journey. Having worked as a lead pastor and still working within the public school system, the McGirts bring their understanding of and passion for grace and community together to further Journey’s discipleship and outreach missions.
The couple hails from Fayettville, North Carolina and have been married for 27 years, spending most of those in ministry. Their adult sons are Cameron and Caleb.
Tonya works as a 3rd grade teacher at Myrtle Beach Elementary, and they love cheering for the UNC Tarheels.
Mike serves to go after the people that Jesus did. Visit the REACH table at Journey or our page right hereto join in.

Brandon served as our band leader for years before stepping into the role of worship pastor. He and his wife Aleisha have grown up in the Myrtle Beach area, where they are raising their daughter Emma, son Haiden, and their “magical third,” Brooklyn Faith. Brandon is a small business owner and seasoned leader who is growing in his role as a preacher. Aleisha works in the medical field. Ask Brandon about his famous chicken wings, and don’t ask Aleisha to cheer for anyone but the Gamecocks.
An SC native, Shawn has been with Journey since the beginning. As the little sister of Pastor Terrie, she has known the heart of our pastors longer than most. She serves as a video editor and central scheduling, along with running the church’s social media and leading our worship vocalists.
She and husband Donnie are the parents of worship leaders, Joshua and Anna Grace.

She and husband Bill have a passion for couples and lead our marriage ministry. They have two adult kids, Billy and Marcy, and are and proud grandparents and great-grandparents!
It was once hard to imagine Ryan Chambers as anything besides that female drummer in the Journey band, but now it’s even harder to imagine her any other way than she is now – wife to Joel, mama to Elijah, and a wonderful additional to our staff.
Ryan continues to serve as our resident drummer and this year, added cancer survivor to her list of accomplishments. To God be the glory!
A retired surgical nurse and a seasoned caretaker, we can think of no one better to serve those in hospitals than our Sue. She is there for those who are sick, hurting, worried, and grieving. When not in that role, Sue enjoys her extended family of kids and grandkids, her pets, and her Boston Red Sox!
Jan and husband Jack moved here from Australia and also from everywhere! They traveled as missionaries before joining the leadership and development team of the local YWAM base. Since joining the staff at Journey, Jan has handled outreach and now transitioned to overseeing GFIN, founded by our pastors.
She and Jack have a combined 6 children and 17 grandchildren and reside with their beloved cats, Waffles and Muffin.
